Tagetes Oil Production through Cultivation of Tagetes Minuta Crop and its Distillation
Details of present/Existing Technology. Shortfall / Technological gaps in the existing technology
Hitherto development of present agrotechnology the crop was being collected from wild sources for production of Tagetes oil.
Approach adopted in new technology to evade technological gap in the exiting one
- Complete agro and production technology package has been developed for commercial production of Tagetes minuta oil.
- Four cropping systems have been evolved based on variable sowing and harvesting time yielding varying quality of essential oils.
Advantages
Tagetes oil has great demand in essential oil and pharmaceutical industry. Oil of desired quality with reference to three major constituents can be produced by adopting specific crop practice developed by this institute. It is an income generation avenue for growers and essential oil distillers.
Brief Description
Tagetes minuta crop has been domesticated in subtropical and temperate agroclimatic zones. Four cropping practices have been developed for the first time based on variable sowing and harvesting times yielding varying quality of essential oil.
Applications
Tagetes minuta oil is in great demand as finds application in tobacco flavouring, medicinal use, in agarbattis and also used by pharmaceutical companies. Essential oil of Tagetes minuta is used by pharmaceutical companies for preparing value added compounds.
Status of Development
