Self Heating System for RTE food

Introduction

Self heating system (Therm-O-Pack) is a chemical based heater useful for heating Ready-to-eat (RTE) Retort processed food in flexible pouches at consumption temperatures without the use of any conventional heating source such as fire, electricity, hexamine tablet etc., Heat generated during the exothermic reaction of certain chemicals, after activation of the process, is capable of heating the RTE food from room temperature to consumption temperature depends on the nature of the product and external temperature conditions. The system is designed in such a way that there is no direct contact between the chemical heater and the food pack at any point of time. The systems developed included self contained ready-to-eat food, pouch as well as the heating system done which could be used for heating chapaties and water for making tea.
