Visbreaking of Petroleum residual fractions soaker mode
Description
Visbreaking of Petroleum residues is done by mild thermal cracking for production of fuel oil with reduction of viscosity, improved pour point & stability and for up-gradation of residual fractions
Salient Features
-
• Soaker visbreaking requires smaller furnace and less waste heat recovery equipment leading to a capital saving of 10-15 percent
• Fuel consumption in case of soaker visbreaking is approx 15 percent ower than that for coil visbreaking
• Increased cycle length
• To upgrade soaker visbreaking technology by providing internals in soaker drum
Commercialization:
-
• Jointly developed by EIL and commercialized in IOC, Gujarat (Revamp), in 1982. Commercialized in IOC, Mathura (revamp); IOC, Haldia (Revamp); CPCL, Chennai (Revamp) KRL, Kochi; IOC Panipat, HPCL, Vizag.
• Recently, HPCL-Vizag has approved the licensing of the revamp of their Visbreaking unit which involves design, fabrication and installation of internals inside the soaker drum
