Home » Technology » New Technologies » Metal and Metalworking Industry » A Process For AL-Based Sacrifical Anode

Type of Technology

Indigenous

Area of Technology

Materials and Material Science

Brief Description

A unique sacrificial anode. It is based on aluminium with 5% alloying addition. It possess high potential ( -1.2v ) in compression to conventional Zn and Mg anodes, higher anode efficiency (96%) and lower tendency for alkali softening of area near the anode fixtures

Major raw materials

  • Aluminium
  • Zinc
  • Indium
  • Mercury. All are indigenously available except Indium.

Major Plant Equipment/Machinery

  • Melting furnace
  • Moulds and
  • Grinders. All are indigenously available. Suitable for small scale industry.

Area of Application

Minerals, Metals and Materials

Applications

Used for cathodic protection of immersed and buried structures

Status of Development

Scale process standardised at a scale of 10 kg/day

Ecological/Environmental Impact

No special measures are required except for those usually adopted

Patenting details

Patent filed

Technology Transfer Assistance Offered

  • Process know-how
  • Details of the equipment
  • Plant lay-out
  • Quality assurance methods. Assistance in setting up the plant and separate terms

Additional Information

A plant with a capacity to make 100 tonnes/annum costs approximately Rs. 20.00 lakhs. Ideally suitable for small scale industry. ROI is 60% for new plant and 200% for existing Al foundry
