A Process for the Production of Distilled Zinc Dust
Type of Technology
Indigenous
Area of Technology
Materials and Material Science
Brief Description
Zinc ingots are charged into a gas/oil fired furnace and the molten zinc vaporised at 1050°C. the zinc vapours are conducted to consider where they are shock cooled with a stream of Nitrogen. While zinc dust collects in the condenser, the nitrogen is passed through a cyclone and bag filter. Nitrogen can be recirculated or let out.
Major raw materials
Zinc, fuel oil, nitrogen
Major Plant Equipment/Machinery
Zinc melting furnace; Power saw; condensers; cyclones.
Area of Application
Minerals, Metals and Materials
Applications
Zinc rich paints hydrosulphite industry, chemical reagent in various processes; Silver-zinc batteries; Spray Galvanising; Sherardizing/Peen plating;Pesticides; Special grease formulations.
Status of Development
The process has been developed both on bench and semi -pilot plant scale.
Ecological/Environmental Impact
Pollution free flue gas exhaust system in the kiln should be provided.
