Lead from Battery Scrap
Type of Technology
Indigenous
Area of Technology
- Materials and Material Science,
- Chemistry and Chemical Ebgineering
Brief Description
Battery scrap is mixed with reduction and fluxes. The mixture is compacted to form briquette followed by smelting in the furnace to recover lead. The process recovers above 90% lead metal with metal purity around 98%.
Major raw materials
Battery Scrap, reduction, Charcoal and Fluxes
Major Plant Equipment/Machinery
Rotary furnace with dust catching arrangements, mixer, briquetting press etc.
Area of Application
Minerals, Metals and Materials
Applications
Battery and chemical engineering industry, Paint industry
Status of Development
Ready for commercial use
Ecological/Environmental Impact
- Sulphur in the battery scrap is converted to sulphide and can be used for manufacturing H2S
- Dust catching arrangement is essential
