Steel Drums
Technology Description
This technology is a process for manufacturing steel drums that are 30 percent lighter that existing steel drums.
- This technology is referred to as a reduced weight steel drum.
- The process allows a plastic laminate to be placed between two thin cold-rolled sheets of metal, thus reducing the overall weight of a steel drum.
- This process was developed to compete with the expansion of plastic drums being used in various markets.
- As the cost of steel and fuel increases, so does the cost of manufacturing a steel drum.
- The intended users of this technology are chemical, oil and paint manufacturers that need to safely ship their products.
- Incorporation of this technology into existing supply chains can be accomplished with minimal disruption.
- Manufacturing and reconditioning/recycling of this steel drum may require a few additional steps to assemble the laminate compared to traditional steel drums.
