Novel Bone Implant
Introduction
A cost effective, biocompatible implant, which is prepared by mixing a connective tissue protein of bovine origin with a polysaccharide, followed by addition of an inorganic substance of biological origin as well as porosity imparting substance, with subsequent drying, shaping and sterilisation. The implant acts as both osteoinductive as well as osteoconductive material. Incorporation of antibiotics during preparation facilitates its use on the infected site. The product has enormous orthopaedic applications in maxilofacial surgery, jaw bone restoration, curing of intrabony and other orthopaedic defects.
