Digital Cereal / Grain Analyzer
Introduction
The system uses near infrared (NIR) technology and statistical math treatment to predict the percentage of constituent concentration within a sample. Research has proved that certain constituents absorb the light energy at specific wavelengths. For instance, moisture absorbs 1940 nm band of NIR light, proteins absorb the 2180 nm band and oil the 2310 and 2330 nm bands. By bombarding a sample with a very narrow band of NIR light at a specific wavelength, the constituents of a sample can be predicted. The light energy absorbed by the sample is inversely proportional to the reflected light. The system is controlled through a computer and user friendly software. The system has been developed for prediction of percentage concentration of moisture, oil and protein within a sample, but it can be further configured for the measurement of other constituents also. The developed system consists of modular electronics, NIR source, NIR filters and detectors, which automatically scan different wavelengths and thus allow displaying the percentage of contents of interest within a sample. The software has been developed using advanced GUI tools (Visual C++) to make it user friendly and compatible with the existing database applications. The system is portable and can be taken to fields for on the spot evaluation.
