Technology Description

The innovation is the development of an externally agitated cell culture technology which uses disposable plastic bags or specially designed glass/Stainless steel vessels which aims to simplify the culturing of a variety of cells viz, bacterial, fungal, insect or animal cells either in suspension or on anchorage matrices. This technology has been named Torocell Bioreactor system as the vessel is essentially in the shape of a toroid though any round or circular shape vessel is acceptable.

Disposable plastic bags are supplied, presterilised by gamma irradiation, while the glass/steel vessels have to be sterilized before use. The innovation drastically cuts capital and production costs and improves the cell yield multiple fold.

The gyratory mechanism developed as the source of external agitation causes a 3 dimensional and unidirectional fluid flow at a very low speed say a few RPH to a very high speed of say a 100 RPM. This range takes care of the needs of growing mammalian cell cultures to bacterial cultures in a single machine and makes it a real universal model that no other single use bioreactor can emulate. This technology has the potential to become the world's choicest method of growing cells.
