Introduction

Korean company is offering technology of low cost GPS/Glonass receiver for automobile, marine and portable applications. With its advanced design channel architecture, 16 universal channels "Agro-16" receiver can receive and process either GPS or Glonass satellite signals thus giving high performance with flexibility and versatility. 16 is the sufficient number for channels to provide highest performance with low cost and low power consumption. With the addition of GLONASS, the increased number of available satellites allows wider satellite coverage for position computation. It provides better position information in the areas where the satellites are liable to be blocked. The adaptive AGC (automatic Gain Control) scheme used in the receiver further enhances the reception of satellite signals resulting in better signal tracking as well as wider satellite coverage. The position accuracy with GPS alone can be severely degraded to the error of 100 m due to the influence of SA (Selective Availability). Stand-alone GPS/GLONASS position accuracy is typically within 10m. The addition of GLONASS not only improves the position accuracy but greatly enhances the velocity accuracy as well. The enhancement of position and velocity accuracy provides greater potential for integrated or hybrid navigation systems, which are gaining more popularity among many commercial applications. In addition to the standard features for differential corrections (RTCM), "ARGO-16" receiver is designed to fully support and process upcoming WAAS (Wide Area Augmentation System)/EGNOS (European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Sytem), which will provide comparable position accuracy without the corrections from remote reference stations.
