X ray Imaging Based Mango Sorting System
Introduction
Continuous scanning of mangoes for detecting internal defects through the use of Non- Destructive Imaging Technique in inspecting and sorting mangoes in an automated system. This system helps in providing better quality mangoes to the internal market and for the export purpose also. With this in view, an x-ray imaging based mango sorting system was developed. The indicative cost of scanning the mango works out to be about Re.0.40 per mango using the existing developed system for a throughput of 1.0 to 1.2 tons per hour.
Image processing methods are employed for sorting mangoes. Sorting of mangoes based on internal defects such as seed weevil and spongy tissue are also done. Image texture analysis and special features extraction are used to identify the defects.
