Manufacture of Sebacic Acid by Pyrolysis of Castor Oil
Home » Technology » New Technologies » Chemicals Based Technologies »Sebacic Acid by Pyrolysis of Castor Oil
Introduction
Castor oil is split to produce fatty acids which are subjected to alkali fusion. The products are neutralized to separate 2-octanol and other fatty acids. Sebacic acid is obtained on further acidification which separated and purified. Processing is simpler and cost effective
Applications
Sebacic acid esters are used as plastizers, a modifier for dimer acid based polyamides in the manufacture of Nylon 6, 10 and Nylon 10, 10 and also used in synlubes.
