Green America

Introduction

Americans are using more renewable energy sources and less coal to meet their power needs, shows recent energy consumption data. Wind power saw the highest percentage gains among all renewable energy sources, with production increasing from 1.17 quadrillion kWh in 2011 to 1.37 quadrillion kWh in 2012. Solar power also increased from 0.158 quadrillion kWh in 2011 to 0.235 quadrillion kWh in 2012. The use of natural gas for electricity generation has also gone up sharply. The shift may be attributed to lowered costs of solar panels and wind turbines.
