Light, a Malady


Can constant light exposure disrupt the sleep-wake cycle leading to energy expenditure and promoting obesity-related diseases, including type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular diseases? Scientists found the effect of day length on the activity of brown adipose tissue in mice performs a central role in energy expenditure by combusting food into heat. The authors say prolonging daily light exposure promotes obesity by decreasing energy expenditure.
