Area of Technology

  • Environment and Pollution
  • Material and Material Science

Brief description

NML has developed an environment friendly Cokeless Cupola using either low sulphur light diesel oil (LDO) or natural gas LPG which not only reduces emission level of the suspended particulate matters 9SPM) but also the sulphur dioxide within Central Pollution Control Board's stipulated limit of 150 mg/m3 and 350 mg/m3 respectively. In addition it gives liquid metal worth of making high value spharodized gray (S.G.) cast irons.

Major Raw Material

Pig iron, Fuel (LDO or Natural gas or LPG) and flux for slag making

Major Plant Equipment

The furnace is similar to coke fired cupolas except that there is a water cooled grate over which ceramic balls are placed to take the load of charge and provide porosity for flue to go up and melt to flow done. Liquid or gas burners are fixed below the grate to impart necessary heat to melt the metal & slag.

Applications

  • Environment and Pollution
  • Minerals, Metals and
  • Materials Ferrous casting industries for making machine tool bed, pumps, auto and compressor product.
