Dental Laser

Introduction

A Korean company offers technology for manufacturing compact dental lasers. The laser was developed for treating hard tissue (teeth), e.g. caries removal or cavity preparation, as well as for use in soft tissue surgery. The dual-head laser of Er:YAG and Nd:YAG series can operate on three wavelengths, namely 1.06 µm, 1.32 µm and 2.94 µm. It size is similar to that of one-wavelength laser currently available on the market. The wavelength selection is done from the control panel. Each pulse duration and repetition rates were carefully selected to ensure best efficiency. Laser Head Nd:YAG Nd:YAG Er:YAG Wavelength 1.06 µm 1.32 µm 2.94 µm Pulse duration 100 µm 100 µm 250 µm Repetition rates 100 Hz 30 Hz 20 Hz Max average power 10 W 7 W 3.5 W Size (cm) 32.5 x 55 x 75 32.5 x 55 x 75 32.5 x 55 x 75 Beam delivery Quartz fiber Quartz fiber Sapphire fibre Handpiece contact (bare, conical) fiber contact (bare, conical) fiber non-contact type with water spray

Area of Application

Medicine, dentistry, dental surgery: Hard tissue treatment (cavity preparation; carries removal; pits and fissures; etching) Soft tissue treatment (gingivoplasty, gingivectomy; excision of lesions; frenectomy; etc.)

Advantages

Laser operation induces no bleeding Anesthesia is usually not required No drill noise
