Urine Albukit

Technology Description

Protein urine tests measure the amount of proteins, including albumin, found in a urine sample. Urine Albukit, constitutes a testing kit for the presence of albumin and micro albumin in the urine. The test is intended for home use as well as use in clinics and labs.

Testing protocol involves collecting a sample of urine and adding two reagents, contained in supplied dropper bottles. Adding the reagents causes an instantaneous color change in the urine sample which indicates the presence or absence of albuminuria in both micro- and macro-quantities.

For a random urine sample, normal albumin values are approximately 0 to 8 mg/dL. Causes of albuminuria can be discriminated between by the amount of protein excreted. Although this test does not produce quantified results regarding the amount of protein present in the urine, it does provide some estimation of the level of kidney damage using qualitative statements keyed to color change.

The innovator describes the Urine Albukit functionality as follows:

  • The kit carries a moderate-sized beaker type urine collection cup from where a certain quantity of the urine sample is taken into a semi-micro test tube (provided in the kit).
  • There are two specialty chemical reagents also in the kit which are packed in two separate pressable plastic drop bottles. From the latter, some fixed number of reagent drops are very conveniently and safely transferred on to the urine sample taken in a semi-micro test tube. No separate dropper is required for reagent transfer. The resultant color reactions are instantaneous, and the end results clearly become visible to the person performing the test.

The reagents used for testing albuminuria are odorless, non-explosive, non-volatile, non-fuming, and non-flammable in nature, hence very safe to use. Environmentally also, they do not pose any health risk. Moreover these reagents are packed in the drop bottles in such a way that there is no likelihood of their falling or spilling on the hands or clothing of the user. However, if any drop of any of the reagents somehow comes in to the contact with hand, it must be washed down with ordinary cold water. Else, it may cause a little irritation or burning sensation, but no life-threatening condition ever arises.

Note :

It must be remembered that all sorts of diagnostic test reagents are either single or multiply mixed number of chemicals which invariably prove poisonous in nature if swallowed ; hence, instructions/precautions etc. are always very clearly issued to the user through the insert (literature). For example, even the common Benedict's reagent used worldwide for testing sugar in the urine is a mixture of corrosive chemicals. DST1974 Urine Albukit 6

How a Home user would Perform the Test

To 2 ml of clear urine sample a few drops of REAGENT No. 1 are added. If the urine sample remains absolutely intact (i.e., there is no change at all, and it remains as transparent as before, then the state of kidney's health should be taken as very good, and the person need not worry at all. In such a safe condition of kidney's health, the use of REAGENT No. 2 is absolutely unnecessary.

However, if upon the addition of REAGENT No. 1 the urine sample turns cloudy, hazy, and it loses its clarity, the a few drops of REAGENT No. 2 are to be added. Now if a light violet, deep violet, or intense purple-violet coloration develops, then this should be taken as a sign of alarm, i.e., kidney damage. The intensity of the violet coloration speaks for the degree of damage to the kidney.

The above noted simple test is meant for a lay man user only. But for the medicos there are available TWO detailed descriptive practical tests along with technical performing details and highly useful informative data in the prepared literature.

The kit carries a color-depicting FIGURE by the use of which a home user can instantly get following types of simple information about the health of his/her kidney:

  • Kidney is absolutely safe, disease-free and healthy, and there is no immediate need to visit a doctor's clinic for a kidney check-up.
  • Kidney has just started suffering some damage, and the person must plan consulting a doctor.
  • Kidney has suffered moderate damage, and to prevent further damage there is an urgent need to visit a doctor.
  • Kidney has been severely damaged, and thus there is an emergency state to rush to the hospital to seek medical aid so that kidney failure could be prevented.

Owing to the above noted vital information that a kit user gains within one minute's time, we also call it DIALYSIS WARNING KIT."

Finally, the innovator noted that within each kit information is clearly marked and described for two different audiences, one meant for lay person home use and the other for experts including doctors, nurses, technologists, clinical biochemist, etc.
