Technology Description

The technology is a new method for processing pathological procedures in a medical lab called MicroMed. The technology uses a microfluidics based diagnostic approach for conducting pathological tests. The device is highly automated and replaces many manual steps currently used in India.

The device is based on application of a combination of forces on a rotating platform to exercise control over fluid motion. The setup transports and manipulates fluidic samples in a rapid, efficient and controlled manner. This replaces the manual laboratory procedures.

In general, a pathological diagnosis can be divided in three steps:

  • Procurement of bodily fluids
  • Making the procured fluids undergo several relevant reactions with certain chemicals
  • Observation of final samples for known symptoms to reach to certain conclusion.

Device is based on exercising total control over fluid motion. This helps in transporting and manipulating fluidic samples in a rapid, efficient and controlled manner. All the various processes are controlled in real-time by MicroMed software that is bundled with the device. The samples can be the patient's serum, intermediate reagents or any final product that is ready for observation. The final product is then observed by the laboratory personnel and relevant conclusions are made to draft the patient's report. The device itself is also extremely compact, only 15 cm wide.
