Introduction

BIOSAT stands for Biochar based Organic Soil Amendment Technology. Biochar is a natural soil amendment that increases the soil fertility over a period of time.  Biochar is a stable solid, rich in carbon, and can endure in soil for thousands of years. Like most charcoal, biochar is made from biomass via pyrolysis. Biochar is under investigation as an approach to carbon sequestration, as it has the potential to help mitigate climate change. It results in processes related to pyrogenic carbon capture and storage (PyCCS). Independently, biochar can increase soil fertility of acidic soils (low pH soils), increase agricultural productivity, and provide protection against some foliar and soil-borne diseases.

Advantages

•  Increase in microbial activity.

•  Increase in water retention capacity of soil.

•  Reduction in nutrient leaching.

•  Better uptake of nutrients by roots.

•  Increase in PH of acidic soils.

•  Alters soil texture & structure.

•  Reduces the need for chemical fertilizers.
