Introduction

The formaldehyde has been reported to be highly allergic and is carcinogenic. Formaldehyde reacts with chromo- tropic acid in presence of concentrated sulphuric acid to give violet coloured complex which is a measure of formaldehyde level. The developed system is based on Lambert-Beer's law, comprises an LED ( 583nm) as light source; sample holding system, detector, current to voltage converter, log amplifier, display-31/2 digit. The test solution after color development is analyzed with system to display concentration in ppm level.
